In 1946, the Georgia Veterans for Majority Rule group brought forth two lawsuits against the Georgia Democratic Executive Committee in objection to the county unit system. The Georgia Veterans for Majority Rule found the county unit system unconstitutional which gave an overwhelming advantage for candidates to win votes in rural counties despite the fact that the population of rural Georgia only comprised approximately one-third of the state's population. Earl Pope Cook was a Troup County native and Army Signal Corps veteran who testified as a plaintiff in one of the two test suits against the Georgia State Democratic Executive Committee and the Secretary of State, Ben W. Henderson Lanham Papers, Series X. Audiovisual Materials contains 18 8mm films and six quarter-inch open reel audio tapes. The films are home movies dating to the late 1940s and 1950s, and include footage of the 1949 Georgia vs. Georgia Tech football game, Washington, D.C.'s cherry blossoms, and the inauguration of President Eisenhower, as well as other subjects. The audio reels are copies of a recording featuring Congressman Lanham dated August 28, 1957.

Marcus Wayland Beck was born in Harris County, Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1881. He passed the bar in 1883 and began practicing law in Jackson County. He served as a Georgia state senator, Solicitor General of the Flint Circuit and judge for the same circuit. After fighting in the Spanish American War, he returned to Georgia and was appointed as associate justice of the Georgia Supreme Court. He was eventually appointed as the presiding judge, a position he maintained until he retired in 1937. The Marcus W. Beck Diaries reflect his day to day personal and judicial activities as Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court (1905-1937) and as Presiding Justice (1917-1937).

Thomas W. Hardwick (1872-1944), a lawyer and Democrat from Thomasville, Georgia served in the Georgia House of Representatives (1898-1902), represented the 10th district (which included the counties Columbia, Glascock, Hancock, Jefferson, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Taliaferro, Warren, Washington, Wilkinson, and Baldwin) in the United State House of Representatives (1903-1914), and was elected to serve in the United State Senate (1914-1919). After an unsuccessful candidacy for renomination, Hardwick later became governor of Georgia from 1921 to 1923. The collection consists of four letters from Hardwick to constituents Dr. T. M. McIntosh and Mr. R. T. Jones and relates to Hardwick's opinions on taxation during his gubernatorial years.

The collection consists of 368 booklets dealing with newspaper clippings, court minutes, and minutes of various county departments. Some are typescripts, carbon copies of the typescripts, and handwritten copies of the original county records. These were compiled by the Historical Records Survey from 1938-1941, and were deposited in the Atlanta office. When the WPA office closed, the records were dispersed to various institutions in Georgia. A calendar compiled in 1971 by Susan Tate accompanies the collection.
